Central Energy U15 Competes in Calgary

Central Energy U15 traveled west to play in the Calgary Industrial Softball Association May Long Invitational tournament. The club went 2-2 in the round robin play, good enough for the second seed in the playoff round.

Game one was a tight battle against Calgary Kaizen, featuring a 2 for 3 and 1 RBI performance from Taryn Toews at the plate. Addison Nikkel and Taylor Wall pitched for the Energy, who eventually fell by a score of 8-7.

Game two was another one run loss to the Edmonton Warriors, with Kennedy Funk pitching the full game. Mya Richard did damage at the plate, going 1 for 2 with a long home run blast.

Things turned around for the Energy on Sunday as they shut out the eventual tournament, beating Lloydminster Liners 6-0. Wall drove the offense going 2 for 3 including a 3-run home run. Richard also added her second home run of the tournament, driving in 3 runs. Shyanne Goertzen went the distance from the rubber with a strong game.

The Energy finished round robin play with an impressive 8-2 victory over the Calgary Adrenaline. Funk led the offense going 2 for 2 with 2 RBIs. Nikkel also added a solo home run in the game. Wall had a solid effort from the rubber throwing the whole game.

The quarter final was a rematch with the Warriors and the Energy kept their winning streak alive with a convincing 12-5 win. Bree Pearce went 1 for 2 with a 2-run home run, and Goertzen and Funk combined for a strong game from the rubber.

Unfortunately, the tournament ended for the Energy in a semi-final loss to the Adrenaline. The Energy fell behind early, but battled back to within one run, eventually losing 9-8. Wall started the game from the circle, with Funk pitching as well. The duo combined for 11 strikeouts. Wall added a home run for the Energy, while Pearce drove in 3 runs.

Busy Weekend for Central Energy U17

The U17 group had a busy weekend with 5 league games, beginning with two wins against the Smitty’s Terminators by scores of 11-3 and 14-2. Game one saw Brooklyn Friesen hit home runs in consecutive innings Nelia Fehr and Heidi Reimer combining for a strong game from the circle. Friesen continued her offense by driving in 4 runs on 3 hits in game two, including a home run. Fehr also hit a 3-run shot in the fourth inning to extend the Energy lead. Reimer and Karli Toews split the game from the circle, combining for 5 strikeouts.

Sunday saw the Energy beat the Winnipeg Lightning 9-2 on the strength of pitching efforts from Gabbi Hildebrand and Maddy Friesen. Brooklyn Friesen led the team with 2 hits and 2 RBIs.

The long weekend Monday began with a big 12-1 win versus the Manitoba Thunder. The Energy exploded with an 8 run fourth inning to put the game out of reach, including a 3-run homer by Kara Buhler. Molly Cowan and Hildebrand shut down the Thunder from the circle. The full weekend ended with a 4-2 loss to the Terminators. The Energy managed just 2 hits in the game, one a solo home run by Buhler. Hildebrand, Reimer, and Fehr all pitched in the low scoring game.
