Vivian Nina Rosenberger (née Carlson)
February 6, 1933 – May 19, 2024
Vivian Nina Rosenberger was born to Martha and Karl Carlson on February 6, 1933, in Fairy Glen, Saskatchewan. She was the eldest of three children. Growing up, she spent her summers at her grandparents’ farm where she was by her grandmother Maret’s side, helping with housework, farm chores, cooking, baking and canning. Following her education at Fairy Glen, she moved to Prince Albert, SK, where she completed a seamstress course and began employment as a cook at the TB Sanatorium. Vivian was later promoted to Head Cook and Shop Steward for their Union. In 1958, Vivian married the love of her life, Gerry Rosenberger. They lived and worked in P.A. and started their family in 1959 with the arrival of their son, Garth. In 1963, the Rosenberger’s relocated to Middle Lake, to pursue a new business venture with the purchase of the Middle Lake Hotel. Then in 1964, their daughter, Karen was born. Vivian kept very busy between family and business duties. In addition to raising two children and managing a household, she worked tirelessly in the hotel- renting rooms, cooking and serving meals and drinks to many travelers and construction crews. She was not afraid of hard work. When the hotel was sold in 1972, Vivian worked as a full-time homemaker. She spent as much time as she could in her garden and was known for her ‘green thumb’. She was active in her community, working at fundraisers and serving on various committees. Vivian and Gerry loved to socialize and enjoyed going to dances and visiting with neighbors. Every fall they hosted a ‘Corn Roast’ in their garage for all their friends, where Vivian was known to get out her accordion and there was plenty of singing and dancing. Vivian and Gerry moved to Humboldt in 1995. They were fortunate to celebrate 61 years of marriage- raising a family, working, playing, and traveling together, before Gerry’s passing. Vivian was a very talented seamstress and over the years had made many, many bridesmaids gowns as well as the family clothing. She liked to keep busy by knitting, crocheting and quilt-making. She ensured that she designed a special quilt for her children, as well as her four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Her quilts were sewn with such love and are special keepsakes that her family will always treasure. Vivian was fortunate to remain in her own home until her passing. Even in her 90’s she continued to manage her household, garden, care meticulously for her yard, walk on the treadmill, sew and cook nutritious meals. Vivian also enjoyed meeting for coffee and keeping in contact by phone with her friends and relatives across the country. She will be remembered for her stubborn strength, her excellent sense of humor, and her artistic and creative abilities. Vivian lived a full life and will be missed dearly by all those who knew her. Vivian will be forever missed by: her son Garth (Brenda) Rosenberger, and their family: Candace (Clayton) Stanford, their children Emrie and Chase; Kyle (Jillene) Rosenberger, their children Brielle and Sawyer; her daughter Karen (Ken) Frank, and their family: Logan Frank; Nicole (Corey) Kinzel, their children Lauren and Cohen; and her sisters-in-law: Donna O’Keefe, Lorraine Carlson, and Darlene Marshall. A private graveside service was held, and urn bearers were Karen Frank and Garth Rosenberger.
