The Central Plains RCMP has released the weekly report for the period between May 13 and May 19. The report covers Portage la Prairie, Treherne, Amaranth and the surrounding Rural Municipalities.


On May 15, at around 9:20 a.m., Portage RCMP received a call that the Portage la Prairie Community Safety Officers had arrested a man for shoplifting from a business in the 100 block of Saskatchewan Avenue East. 

RCMP officers arrived and took custody of the 31-year-old man from Sandy Bay First Nation. The suspect faces charges of Theft Under $5,000.00 and received a ticket for Trespassing for $672.00. He was released to appear in court at a later date.


Calls for police service totalled 326, which is an increase from the 300 calls the previous week.

Under Traffic Violations, there were 71 Highway Traffic Act reports, 4 reports of Vehicle Collisions and 2 reports of Impaired Drivers. 

Crimes Against Person reports included 17 Assaults, 4 Assaults with a Weapon, as well as 6 reports of Uttering Threats. 

Crimes Against Property detailed 16 Thefts, 2 Thefts of a Motor Vehicle, 7 reports of Breaking and Entering and 18 calls regarding Mischief. 

Other statistics included 49 calls for Other Criminal Investigations and 78 for "Other Police Activity," meaning False Alarms, Suspicious People or Vehicles, and Assistance Given. 

The day that saw the most action from the RCMP was Friday, May 17, which included 63 calls for service.
