With broken hearts, the family announces the peaceful passing of Brian Ward, 67, on Friday, May 17th, 2024, on D4 at the Health Sciences Centre. The family wishes to thank Dr. J. Ziegler, Tristan (resident) and nurse Abby for the thoughtful care Brian received during his transition from this world. We would also like to express gratitude to Jesse Allard at Ronald Moffit Memorial Services for his compassion during Brian’s final journey.

Brian and his twin brother Blaine joined the Ward family on August 15th, 1956, becoming the newest additions to parents, Russell and Wilna, and the younger siblings of brothers Lyle and Peter. A fifth brother, Craig, joined the clan in early 1960. Life for this family started out in a small home in St. Marks, a move to Transcona when Russell started a new job, and then moving the family again to a wild rice farm in Minnesota. Brian returned to St Marks in the mid 1970’s where he became an avid competitor in Garden Tractor Pulls while working at Portage Dodge Chrysler Ltd. Upon graduation from Red River Community College, with a Diploma in Nursing, Brian secured a full-time position in Home Care, dealing with ventilator dependent patients.

Brian and Eileen were married for almost 28 years. They both wished it could have been longer, but that was not to be. He overcame many hurdles during his 55-year cancer journey, battling four rounds of cancer with all the associated effects of cancer treatments. No matter what happened, Brian always had a brave and positive attitude through it all. He never worried about tomorrow because each day was a blessing.

Brian was predeceased by his twin brother Blaine (1958), his mom Wilna (2017) and dad Russell (2022), grandparents and numerous aunts and uncles on both sides of the family. He will be deeply missed by his wife Eileen, daughter Amber (Tobin) and his newborn granddaughter Ella. He will also be missed by his three brothers, Lyle (Karen), Peter (Mary Ann) and Craig along with his aunt Phyllis and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins (some of whom make cabin life out in St. Marks very entertaining).

A Celebration of Life, for Brian Ward, will take place on Saturday June 15th, 2024, at 1:00 pm at the Dakota Community Centre/Jonathan Toews Sportsplex, 1188 Dakota Street, Winnipeg, MB. Reception to follow the celebration.
The Interment will take place at a later date at the St. Marks Cemetery, St. Marks, Manitoba.
