Lloyd Litton passed peacefully in his sleep Tuesday, May 28th at the Lion’s Prairie Manor in Portage la Prairie at the age of 87. Dad farmed for many years in the Overhill District south of Portage. He was no stranger to hard work as he usually worked from sunup to sundown on his mixed grain, hay and cattle farm.
Known by many as school bus driver Lloyd or Mr. Litton to the many students he drove, he retired from the Portage la Prairie School Division after 49 years after driving multiple generations from a number of families. Growing up on the family farm near Rathwell he worked hard and in the limited free time he had, he would practice his hockey shooting skills in the yard. The practice paid off as Lloyd played for the Rathwell Racoons, Central Plains Oldtimers, 4 man hockey in Southport and back to regular hockey in Oakville well into his 70s. An active leader in the Gainsborough 4-H Club for many years, continuing even after his own kids were no longer members of the club. He also enjoyed attending old time dances and rodeos.
Lloyd was predeceased by his sister Peggy Smart, brother Kenny, and son in law Lester Anderson.
Left mourn his passing is former wife Fran, son Kelly, daughter Shelley Anderson, grandchildren Mike, Brittney, Ryan, Heather and Katrina, sisters Audrey (Stuart) Hooey, Marion (Ken) Bowles, Gwen (John) Marlatt, Dorothy (Barry) Brooking, brother Brian (Joyce), sister in-law Ivonne Litton and many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
As per his wishes, there will be no formal funeral service.
Expressions of sympathy can made by donating in Lloyd’s name to the Central Plains Cancer Services, 318 Saskatchewan Ave E, Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 0K8.
