Motorists can expect delays on the QEII beginning today and tomorrow. Beginning Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. and lasting till 2:30 p.m., there will be both spray patching and pothole repair, northbound on the QEII.
Motorists can expect a double left-hand lane closure with reduced speeds from Cross Iron Drive to Yankee Valley Boulevard, with a reminder that there will be no passing, and traffic congestion in the area.
The work will also occur on Wednesday, June 12, and begin at 9:30 a.m. and last till 2:30 on Wednesday afternoon.
Other closures motorists should be mindful of include the closure of 24th Street that has already begun and will last till the fall due to the construction of a two-lane undivided roadway north of Reunion, motorists should be aware of several other key road and lane closures this month.
Other longer-term temporary road and pathway closures that will last until the end of this month include:

Luxstone Boulevard has a temporary pathway closure, to accommodate the stormwater system rehabilitation project until June 19

Waterstone Gate has a temporary alley closure, to accommodate the installation of an oil and grit separator until June 24
- There will also be intermittent pathway closures in the vicinity of Stonegate Place Northwest to accommodate the second phase of the Stonegate dry pond rehabilitation project. Closures will last till June 15

Beginning on June 14, and lasting till June 22, there will also be a temporary road closure on Midtown Boulevard to accommodate for site servicing.
Then beginning this July and lasting till September 20, a two-phase deep utility installation will also impact Flett Drive. The temporary road closure is meant to accommodate the construction in the area, and thus far the city has provided two tentative dates. The first phase will begin July 2 and last till August 9, while the second phase will last till September 20.
Also in early July, and until the end of August, there will be a temporary lane closure on Erin Drive to accommodate deep utility rehabilitation.
Residents who travel to Calgary should also be aware of a major construction project on Crowchild Trail Northwest, from Stoney Trail Northwest to 32 Ave Northwest. According to the City of Calgary, it is part of the Annual Paving Program. The project began on Monday and will last till mid-September, with weather permitting.
"Calgarians should plan for and expect delays and traffic congestion due to reduced lanes, lower speed limits and detours. Commuters are advised to allow extra travel time and use alternate routes and modes of transportation or carpool when possible. Pedestrians and cyclists should be aware of local detours, as pedestrian ramps will be removed and replaced. C-Train operations will not be impacted. Transit services along the corridor may be impacted by ramp closures."
During construction, one to two lanes in each direction will always remain open and functional. Most work will take place during off-peak hours.
The City of Calgary stated that:
- Concrete replacement will take place during the daytime from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on both weekdays and weekends.
- Milling and paving will be conducted from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on weekdays and from 9 p.m. to 8 a.m. on weekends.
- Ramp replacements will occur during nighttime hours between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.
- There will be a 10-day construction break from July 5 to July 14, when all lanes will be open so motorists can use Crowchild Trail Northwest during the Calgary Stampede.
Between June and July, several key construction operations will be undertaken including:
- Milling and paving Westbound and Eastbound lanes of Crowchild Trail Northwest from Brisebois Drive Northwest to Stoney Trail Northwest
- Concrete rehabilitation of on and off ramps along Crowchild Tr Northwest
- Concrete barrier replacement along Crowchild Trail Northwest C-Train line from Brentwood Station to Northland Drive Northwest
- Stormwater drainage upgrades, concrete replacement, and milling and paving of Westbound and Eastbound lanes of Crowchild Trail Northwest at Shaganappi Trail overpass
"This construction work is essential to ensure the safety and longevity of our roads and sidewalks, helping to prevent more costly and disruptive reconstruction in the future. This year's scope of work includes asphalt roadway repair and replacement, as well as localized concrete repair and replacement of sidewalks, wheelchair ramps, curbs, barriers, and gutters," The City of Calgary stated.
"The project cost is $7.3 million, which is part of the $40 million Annual Paving Program budget for 2024," The City added.
Between July and September, construction operations will include:
- Concrete rehabilitation followed by top lift paving on Westbound and Eastbound lanes of Crowchild Trail Northwest from Brisebois Drive Northwest to Stoney Trail Northwest
- Milling and paving of on and off ramps along Crowchild Trail Northwest from Brisebois Drive Northwest to Stoney Trail Northwest
- Milling and paving the intersection of Crowchild Trail Northwest and 5 Avenue Northwest
- Milling and paving Westbound and Eastbound ramps at Crowchild Trail Northwest and 32 Avenue Northwest
- Continue milling and paving Westbound and Eastbound lanes of Crowchild Trail Northwest at the Shaganappi Trail overpass
This work is part of nearly 400 lane kilometres of roadway being rehabilitated this year as part of The City of Calgary’s Annual Paving Program, which runs from May through October and focuses on maintaining and improving the city’s infrastructure through various projects.
