Low COVID-19 cases counts continue to be seen across the Northwestern Health Unit even with the change in season.

The region's top doctor does predict the region may see an increase in cases in the fall as the cooler weather will force people inside, and increase in-person interactions.

When it comes to reporting daily case counts other provinces including Ontario have differentiated between unvaccinated, partially vaccinated, or fully vaccinated when COVID-19 cases are announced.

At a media briefing yesterday, Dr.Kit Young Hoon Medical Officer of Health for the NWHU said at this time the NWHU will not switch to adding that information when reporting cases.

“It’s not really useful for the public, and generally we try only to release information that is useful for the public and is helpful,” said Young Hoon

“However, we can release that information on occasion if there is a large enough number of cases, we can do an analysis intermittently or periodically to help people understand the benefits of the vaccine,” added Young Hoon

She did add that another reason for not releasing that information is due to the health unit not having access to those statistics right away.

Young Hoon did also say that information isn’t really helpful when dealing with a small number of cases as on occasion those fully vaccinated can contract COVID-19.

Even though the NWHU at this time isn’t releasing that information, she did say that information is useful when dealing with large number of confirmed cases.

Currently, there are eight active cases in the NWHU catchment area.
