Thursday was a busy day in the Bernie Kemick Arena as Frontier Day's activities kicked off in the Livestock Area.
4-Her's from around the Southwest took part in the 4H Regional Judging Competition.
The top eight qualifying senior members will represent the region at the Provincial Judging Competition.
There was strong competition in the show ring with the Junior Breed Show, Purebred, Crossbred and All Breed Championships.
Steele Sylvestre of Coronach and her heifer "Smurfette" a polled hereford won the Junior Breed Show.
Sylvestre enjoys coming to Frontier Days, being involved in 4-H, working with livestock and taking part in the shows and events.
She put in a lot of hours working with her heifer in preparation for the show circuit.
"Months of washing every day to get their hair right and straight, lots of hair. Feeding them twice a day, everyday, and getting your rations correct. Then on show day its washing, blow drying, fitting, everything making sure they're looking their best."
She says the experience has taught her how to care for something that's not yourself, and that if you put a lot of work into it, a lot will come back.
Sylvestre and Smurfette will be back in the ring Saturday for the Showmanship class.

Friday at Frontier Days the 4-Her's take to the show ring in the Bernie Kemick Arena for the Team Grooming and Club Showmanship events.
At 12 noon it's the Female Pen Show Judging followed at 1 o'clock by the Cloverbud Class and Showmanship events.
The 4-H Heifer Futurity Show and the Supreme Champion 4-H Female show close out the day's activities.
Then on Saturday it's the 4-H Showmanship classes and highlighting the weekend events the 4-H Steer show and sale.
