City collects key information and award at SUMA convention
The City of Swift Current was well-represented at the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association (SUMA) convention in Saskatoon.
Swift Current sent its mayor, the two newest council members, and three administration staff members to the four-day event, which ran from April 13 to April 16.
Al Bridal, Swift Current's Mayor, said networking with other municipalities was the highlight of the event.
Snowfall may stir in the southwest
In addition to showers and a risk of thunderstorms, some parts of the southwest might even receive snow.
Monday afternoon saw temperatures around 5 degrees with some precipitation and clouds, thanks to a weather system coming from south of the border.
Shannon Moodie, meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada, shared that the Cypress Hills area may even be looking at some snow on Monday night and into Tuesday morning.
Locations with higher elevations, such Cypress Hills, are more likely to see snowfall.
Swift Current & area hit with rainy spell
Southwestern Saskatchewan was subject to gloomy conditions and rainy weather to wrap up the Easter long weekend.
In addition to cooler temperatures, the Swift Current area recorded around six millimetres of rain on Sunday.
Shannon Moodie, meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada, shared that an unsettled weather pattern has been in play for the past couple of days.
Silzer commits to U of R Cougars
Rylan Silzer has played his entire hockey career in Saskatchewan.
The Swift Current native has decided to continue that trend by committing to the University of Regina Cougars to play U Sports starting this fall.
"It's just a perfect spot," Silzer said. "It's close to home and it's a goal of mine to play U Sports."
The former La Ronge Ice Wolf won the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League Canterra Seeds Saskatchewan Player of the Year Award in his final junior season.
He is happy to continue playing in his home province.
Fieldstone Energy commits to SWFF donation
Another significant corporate donation for the Southwest Facility Foundation.
They've received a $25,000 commitment from Fieldstone Energy.
"They kind of approach us and ask how they can partake in helping the cause here," said Vim Parmar of the SWFF Board of Directors. "They are a local minded company, and they have an interest in the community in all of the southwest. They talked to their staff and then the families and said here's what we would like to do for Swift Current."
Swift Current volleyball teams secure success at Provincials
A pair of local volleyball teams headed to Regina over the long weekend to compete in the Provincial Tournament that would determine their chance to advance to the coveted National Tournament.
The tournament was held from Thursday, April 17, to Saturday, April 19, with teams from around the province.
Swift Current's Southwest Sports Excellence 15UM Sundogs continued a streak of success, securing silver after losing to the Saskatoon Huskies in a three-set gold medal match.
