A hard-fought surge at the end of the game just came short of a win for the East Central AAA 15U Dodgers last night in their tangle with the Sask 5 Giants at James Korte Field.
The Giants came out swinging with a 6-1 lead at the top of the third. Then with 2 out in the bottom of the third, the Dodgers dug deep, starting with a single by Michael Moorman to drive in one run. A wild pitch added another run as did a Quinn Strueby double to bring in one more.
The Sask 5 crew made it a 10-4 game heading to the bottom of the sixth when a last push on a Kyler Fischer single and a Luke Manz homer turned up the heat.
A single run in the ninth left the Dodgers trailing by one at the game's end.
Next up for the Dodgers is a double header against the Yorkton Cardinals on Saturday, 12 noon at Humboldt's Centennial Park.
