More summertime excitement is on the way to the Reid Thompson Library with a pair of special events coming up this week.

On Thursday, July 11, those who have their eyes on the skies will love the visit by the Starman (aka Ron Waldron) to the library. Two presentations include the 15-minute NASA sponsored planetarium show Max Goes to the Moon for children from Grades 1 to 2. Max the astronaut dog helps mankind return to the moon, this time for good. A special virtual planetarium trip to the moon follows.

Also on Thursday, the Starman presents a digital showcase on the moon for students from Grades 5 to 8. During the presentation, students will learn about the moon’s origins along with lunar eclipses, tides, and past and present lunar exploration.

If time and weather cooperate, Starman will also guide youngsters looking through a specially designed and safe telescope to view the features of the sun. Call the Library to register a child for either show.

Then on Friday, July12, special guest Mr. Snotsense visits for a musical performance. Eric Paetkau is a children’s entertainer making a stop in Humboldt while crisscrossing the province on a 46-show tour. He has performed in schools, hosted songwriting residencies, and shared his musical passion with K - Grade 3 students across the country.

Now in the guise of Mr. Snotsense, Eric is in reality a two-time JUNO Award nominated musician who had served as conductor and music director for the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra. He’s a folksinger and songwriter extraordinaire, sharing his musical vision at concert houses Canada wide.

Don’t miss a moment of either of these wonderful summer events, brought to you courtesy of the Reid Thompson Library.
