The City of Moose Jaw has issued an advisory to residents that the Thunderbird Viaduct (4th Avenue SW bridge) will be temporarily closed to traffic for five days this week, beginning Monday.
Weather permitting, repairs should be completed by this weekend. Drivers are asked to use Main Street South and 9th Avenue to travel between the North Side and South Hill while this project takes place.
The City always reiterates at these times that drivers must obey posted signage, slow down further if conditions require, and exercise the caution it takes to avoid close calls with road workers.
Residents needing assistance can always report issues through the ‘Report an Issue’ feature on the City’s free app or website.
City Manager Maryse Carmichael told 800CHAB's Rob Carnie last week that restoring the Viaduct is a priority, but the City is obligated to move forward in partnership with Canadian Pacific Kansas City railroad because of the bridge's history and location. It could take years for binding arbitration to conclude.
