The AAA 18U Red Sox battled to a split this past weekend in Saskatoon. The decisions have the Red Sox at 19-12-1 on the season as they head into the final week of regular season play with teams jockeying for playoff positions.

On Friday evening, following a wonderful tribute to the late Heath Muggli, Muenster hometowner and longtime baseball umpire and contributor, the Red Sox went to work and manhandled the Saskatoon Cubs with a 20-4 win.

The Red Sox had things well in hand, up on the Cubs 8-3 going into the 5th inning. After a scoreless 5th, the Red Sox bats came alive with 12 runs batted in in the 6th to give them the 20 runs on the night.

That final inning opened with Cam Marshak scoring on a wild pitch, followed up by a Jarret Rude single to bring in another run. Carter Dosch contributed an RBI and Rude came up with another single to score wrapping up the Red Sox assault. Rude got the win at the plate.

The baseball spirits were not so kind on Saturday as the Red Sox fell to the Saskatoon Diamondbacks 10-5. The Red Sox watched a four run lead slip away to the never-say-die D’Backs. The early lead was established on an error and a Dallen Rude effort to score the opening pair. Cam Marshak’s triple, Cade Armstong’s sacrifice fly and Rude’s walk all brought in runs.

The Diamondbacks took back the lead in the bottom of the fourth with an error, a walk and a Joel Davidson single all put numbers up.

The Red Sox take to the field tonight, July 16, back at James Korte Field against the Sask Five Marlins.
