Danny Carman Cooke
June 10, 1947 - July 15, 2024
It is with gratitude for a life well-lived that the family of Dan Cooke of Middle Lake, SK announces his passing, following a long and courageous journey with Stage 4 Prostate Cancer. Dan was predeceased by: his parents Carman and Dorothy (Dot); parents-in-law Arnold and Chris Storey; and numerous aunts and uncles. He is lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his wife Dori (Dorothy Storey); their children and families: Anna (Darin) Felstrom and children: Elsa, Trygve, and Stefan; Will (Kim) and children: Louise and George; and Mark; siblings: Diane Wilson, Heather (Gil) Cooke-Penner, Geoff (Deb), Pixie (Graham) Hoffman; sister-in-law Joan (Bill) Egnatoff; special cousins: Lee (Jack) Gibson, and Deirdre (Mike) Franklin; Uncle Bill Cooke; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Dan was born in Saskatoon and was the second of five children. He was raised in Estevan, SK, in a home filled with love and laughter. Dan always spoke fondly of his childhood, the people of Estevan, and his adventures on the Souris River. He moved to Saskatoon to attend university, where he received a Bachelor of Education followed by a Masters Degree in History. During his undergraduate studies he met the love of his life, Dori in a music appreciation class and they married in December 1970, after a whirlwind romance, which continued for 53 years. They shared a curiosity about people and the world, which led them to explore many parts of Europe and North America. Dan and Dori also shared a love of family, raising three children together, providing a secure, supportive, and happy home. The couple’s joy was complete with the arrival of five bright and lively grandchildren. Dan was a gifted educator who enjoyed his students and his work as a teacher and principal, always trying to inject a bit of fun into the classroom and school environment. He taught in several places in Saskatchewan: Regina, Hazlet, Wolseley, before settling in the RM of Three Lakes where he taught in St. Benedict and Middle Lake for over 20 years. His career as a teacher allowed him to pursue his other two passions: sunbathing on the beach of Lucien Lake and gardening. Dan loved everything about the garden - planning in the winter where the next potato patch should be, watching the seedlings pop through the ground in spring, enjoying the beautiful colours of summer, and harvesting in the fall. Dan was closest to God surrounded by creation. Dan took pleasure in simple things in life: a sunny day, a fig newton with a cup of earl grey on a rainy day, a ruddy duck on the pond, or a good foot rub. He was an avid sportsman, and loved playing, coaching, and watching a wide variety of sports. He was particularly fond of playing basketball and long-distance running. He followed the Riders, Huskies, Blue Jays, Jets and Oilers, and every Olympics. We will remember Dan for his energy, integrity, sharp mind, quick smile, thankful heart, and his poetic sensibilities. Dan was kind, good and respectful to all. The family is thankful to Dr Iqbal and the Saskatoon Cancer Centre for their attentive care over the last seven years. We also wish to express a deep gratitude to Dr Levick and all the staff of the Humboldt District Hospital for their extraordinary and compassionate care to our parents over the last 100 days of Dad’s life. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Saskatoon, SK at 1:00 p.m. A quote from Dan, August 2022 -“If joy prolonged life, I would never die”
