John (Hans) Herman Hauser
October 14th, 1936 - July 16th, 2024

87 Years

Hans was the youngest of six children born to Frank and Julia Hauser (nee Pomedli).  He was raised near Pilger until the age of three when the family moved to Kelowna, BC, to operate a fruit and cattle farm.  In 1942 the family returned to Pilger to resume farming.  In 1957, as per European tradition, Hans started his farming career on a part of the original farm.  Along with his wife Elizabeth (nee Eichinger), they raised five sons with an appreciation for nature, agriculture, education, and the local and wider community.

Besides wintering cattle and raising crops for over 50 years, Hans had many things he was fond of doing.  He loved to hunt and traveled Saskatchewan with family and friends in search of quarry, hoofed or feathered.  He missed very few local auction sales and never failed to bring a “treasure” home.  Taking photos with the old film cameras was a passion.

Hans loved to tell stories and had a great memory for details.  The early years of snowmobiles seemed to be a common theme.  For several winters he worked the oil rigs in both Saskatchewan and Alberta, and he would tell stories of the people he met and the places he had been.  It seemed he could remember every detail about an auction sale or a hunting trip.  In 2001, he went on a trip of a lifetime to Europe & visited relatives in Germany.  He liked to meet new people and took great care to learn about their life.  As he got older, and it became harder to remember these details, he would make notes so that he could be sure to bring them up the next time he saw the person.

In April of 2021, Hans moved to Bethany Pioneer Village. He enjoyed having people close to visit with, but he especially enjoyed getting to go in the van for tours and the sweet treats.

Hans will be remembered by his five sons:  Lloyd (Rachel) of Grenfell, SK; Warren (Lorenda) of Lake Lenore, SK and their children Tristen (Hayley) and MaKayla; Bradley (Michelle) of Melfort, SK; Lyle (Julie) of Wainwright, AB and their children Luke and James; and Ryan of St. Benedict, SK; his two sisters Mary Langenhoff, High River, AB, and Anne Baron, Humboldt, SK; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Hans was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Julia Hauser; his three brothers: Frank, Tony, and Edward Hauser; nephews Howard Langenhoff, Dwayne Baron, Roger Hauser, and Noel (Ed) Baron.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Bethany Birch Manor who provided loving care to John as well as all the other residents who helped make it a new home, and as well as the staff of the Humboldt and Saskatoon Hospitals. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to Bethany Pioneer Village or the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation. A Celebration of Life was held on Sunday, October 13, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. from Middle Lake Multi-plex, Middle Lake, SK, led by Funeral Celebrant Debbie Sarauer.
