The peaceful death of Mr. Leo Schulte, 86 years, formerly of Bruno, occurred at his residence in Martensville on July 20, 2024. He was surrounded by his family. Leo was one of ten children born to Mary (nee Therres) and Matthias Schulte. Leo helped on the farm and enjoyed many sports, including curling, hockey, and baseball. Leo especially loved baseball and loved being a south paw pitcher. Along with his eight brothers and one sister, he enjoyed playing outdoors and getting into many mischievous situations.
After leaving school, Leo worked for local farmers and soon after moved to Ocean Falls, BC to join some of his brothers who had moved to work in the paper mill industry. While there, Leo enjoyed living on his boat and being on the ocean.
In 1964, Leo moved back to Saskatchewan to join his brothers in a brush clearing operation. During this time, Leo met his future wife, Viola Felix. They were married on November 19, 1966. Living in St. Brieux, they had their first two children, Bernie and Anne Marie. In 1969, Leo and Viola moved to Vavenby, BC, and then Clearwater, BC. Mary Lou and Andy were born during this time. In 1974, Leo and Viola moved to Bruno. Living on a small farm, Leo worked for the town of Bruno and farmed. After this, he worked as a carpenter’s helper in Bruno and the surrounding area.
Leo loved to play sports with his family and he enjoyed playing cards. He and Viola enjoyed playing bingo after the children left. After Viola's passing, Leo became involved in the Seniors’ Friendship Centre in Bruno. He loved to go fishing and travelling with his good friend, Gordie Bender. He helped his brothers in St. Brieux and Vavenby during this time. Often, he would visit his children both near and far.
Leo is lovingly remembered by his children: Bernie (Jan), Anne Marie (Rose), Mary Lou (Jason), and Andy (Valerie).
