The City of Humboldt gave the nod to a temporary road closure for a first of a kind event coming to Humboldt this fall.

The request came to City Council from the Humboldt Downtown Business Improvement District for a downtown street closure to accommodate its proposed Farm Day in the City event slated for October 6, 2024. The event will take place along 9th Street from the north side of 5th Avenue to the south side of 7th Avenue.

A statement provided to Council as part of the request indicated that Farm Day in the City is designed to connect the city to local agriculture, artisans and local businesses. The event aims to include vendor booths, a petting zoo with small livestock, live music, photo booths and booths for downtown businesses and storefront displays at no cost.

The statement goes on to say that such events are held in cities across Canada, and they represent an excellent way to showcase local farmers businesses and artisans. The event will be free for the public.

During the presentation request at Monday’s City Council meeting, Mayor Michael Behiel stated, “I think this is a great initiative – we definitely are an agricultural based community, and so this recognition is something that’s fantastic.”

Council approved the closure, allowing the event to proceed as planned. More details will be forthcoming from the Downtown BID.
