The province will soon be in election mode as both provincial and municipal elections are slated for this fall. At its regular meeting on Monday, July 22, Humboldt City Council received a report about preparations for the Municipal Election in Humboldt scheduled for Wednesday, November 13, 2024.

As it has been for the past two election cycles, Michael Ulriksen with the City will serve as the returning officer.

In the last election, all polling was done at the Humboldt Curling Club to facilitate social distancing during the pandemic. This year, according to the report submitted to City Council, the intent is to return to multiple polling stations on the day of the election. In 2016, the Uniplex, St. Augustine Parish and Legion were used as the polling locations on Election Day. The City’s administration will investigate additional polling location options.

Administration also recommended that there be no mail-in ballot option this year, as outlined in the report. Mail-in balloting was set up in 2020 as an accommodation for the pandemic. The intent instead is to return to advance polls with the following recommendation:

  • Saturday, November 2nd – 1:00pm – 5:00pm - St. Mary’s Villa

  • Tuesday, November 5th – 1:00pm – 9:00pm - Humboldt Uniplex

  • Wednesday, November 6th – 1:00pm – 9:00pm - Humboldt Uniplex

  • Thursday, November 7th – 1:00pm – 9:00pm - Humboldt Uniplex

  • Saturday, November 9th – 1:00pm – 5:00pm – Caleb Village

The act allows for mobile polling stations to be set up in hospitals, care facilities and other similar institutions. The recommendation in the report is for the City to establish a mobile poll on election day to serve some of these residents.

A full listing of municipal election recommendations is available for viewing in the report on Humboldt.ca.
