When the sun is shining and the heat is blazing, there’s nothing better than refreshing summer fruits and vegetables.
When you need your fix, Country Roots Market and Garden is the place to go. Get your fill of local produce, with new batches coming in as the crops grow.
“Almost everything is local,” says owner, Kathy Pilkett. “We’re very proud of the products we carry, and the uplifting energy we offer in the shop.”
In addition to local produce, Kathy also sells work from local artisans, and flowers and plants in the spring. The garden centre is heading towards the end of its season now, but you can still grab the remaining stock – AND, much of the inventory is buy one, get one free!
“The garden centre is a lot of work,” she admits, “but it’s incredible. It’s wonderful.” But, while the garden centre is the perfect way to welcome in the warm weather and new beginnings as the seasons change, Kathy always looks forward to the beginning of summer.
“The produce is delicious,” she says. “It's all fresh produce, farm fresh, and we even get cherries from BC and peaches from Ontario. We try to source as close to home as possible.”
And right now, it’s the beginning of strawberry season and pea season! Batches are rolling in slowly, with much more to come in the next few weeks.
Kathy has owned Country Roots Market and Garden since 2010 and has been working there since the 1970s: “I worked for my boss until he wanted to retire,” she says, “and then we were able to buy it off of him, which was great.”
Kathy is thankful for the work she’s done over the years and is happy to keep offering people the simple – but incredible! – joys in life while also supporting local farmers and artisans.
The produce season has just begun, so don’t wait – enjoy it while you can!
You can find Country Roots at 1577 Henderson Highway, right on the corner of Chief Peguis Trail and Henderson Highway.
