A Christian school in Brandon is the first to be declared in an outbreak this school year.
Public Health says Christian Heritage School is in a COVID-19 outbreak, linked to the delta variant. They are a Kindergarten to Grade 8 school. A class has been moved online and will continue to be online until October 1. An outbreak consists of three positive COVID-19 cases in one cohort within 14 days of each other.
There are slightly more than five dozen new COVID-19 cases in Manitoba Thursday.
Lineups continue at COVID-19 testing sites, especially in Winnipeg. On Wednesday, 3,043 tests were completed, much higher than the 2,386 completed one week before. The provincial positivity rate has slightly lowered compared to last week's rate of 2.5 per cent.
As of Thursday morning, there are 67 new COVID-19 cases in Manitoba, with 50 of those cases being in people who are not fully vaccinated, and the remained are fully vaccinated.
New cases include:
- 28 in Southern Health
- 14 in Winnipeg
- 12 in Prairie Mountain
- eight in Interlake-Eastern
- five in Northern health
This brings the total number of COVID-19 cases to 59,944. If case counts continue to rise on the same trend, the 60,000 mark could be hit as soon as Friday.
There are 496 active COVID cases and 58,241 recoveries. Manitoba's five-day test positivity rate is 2.3 per cent.
There have been 1.207 deaths including a female in her 80s from the Winnipeg health region, linked to an unspecified variant of concern and a male in his 60s from the Southern Health–Santé Sud health region, linked to an unspecified variant of concern since Monday.
There are 68 people in the hospital including 35 who have active cases.
In intensive care, there are 14 people, with nine of those having active cases. One of these active patients is fully vaccinated and the remainder are not vaccinated.
Enforcement
A total of 22 tickets and 41 warnings have been issued for COVID-19 health order compliance. This includes 10 tickets to businesses, 11 to people failing to wear a mask in indoor public places, and one individual ticket.
An earlier statement from the province showed 22 per cent of the new cases are in people who are fully vaccinated, 10 per cent are partially vaccinated, and 67 per cent are fully vaccinated. This has since been corrected.
