The AAA 18 U Red Sox came up just short of their bid for a repeat championship at this weekend's provincial tournament in Regina.

The weekend started strong for the Red Sox who posted an early 4-3 win on Friday in their opener against the White Buttle Broncos.

They followed up in a decisive win over the Regina Athletics, with Jarret Rude driving in four runs on a pair of hits on their way to a 17-4 victory.

The going got tougher later on Saturday as the Red Sox fell to the Saskatoon Cubs 17-1. The Cubs stunned the Red Sox with a runaway 13-run first inning.

The Red Sox went into a semi-final against the Saskatoon Diamondbacks to keep their provincial trek going, but the D'backs held off the Sox to go ahead early and retain their lead on the way to a 5-2 win. The D'backs would ultimately come in second to the Saskatoon Giants who will go on to represent the province at Nationals while the Diamondbacks head to Westerns.

Hats off to the Red Sox for another great season of competitive baseball.
