The Muenster Seniors’ Centre was the beneficiary of a $1500 donation from the Muenster Facilities Foundation, one of the community’s Donor’s Choice options.
A cheque for the amount was presented to representatives of the Seniors’ Centre Marguerite Cunningham and Cheryl Chapman.
The Foundation started in 1999,” explained Chad Hofmann, who presented the check on behalf of the group. “They collect funds each year from Donor’s Choice, and they distribute it to local facilities in Muenster that require some extra money.”
Community groups make submissions to the independent Facilities Foundation, which selects the recipients for the year based on the request's merits. Hofmann sits on the Board of the Facilities Foundation along with Marvin Renneberg and Derek Rude.
This year, Marguerite explained that the Seniors’ Centre, used not only as a gathering place for seniors but for many community meetings and gatherings, needed air conditioning. The hot summer weather this year is no match for the new cooling unit, which means the hall can remain in comfortable use by community members.
“The unit is in and we really appreciate it,” says Marguerite, who along with Cheryl Chapmans is also on the Board of Donor’s Choice. “Through Donor’s Choice, over the last, the community has donated over $6710 to the Facilities Foundation.”
Cunningham says that since 2000, Donor’s Choice contributions from Muenster and area have totalled $323,729.
