The Saskatchewan Big Game Draw and regular hunting licenses became available for purchase yesterday. Licenses can be purchased either in person, over the phone, or through the Government of Saskatchewan’s online Hunting, Angling, and Trapping online system.
Hunters can get information about zones, hunting times, and other rules and regulations before heading out to the tree stand by acquiring a Saskatchewan Hunter’s Guide or Trapper’s Guide. Hunters can download a copy of the guides on saskatchewan.ca/hunting or pick up printed copies at Government of Saskatchewan field offices with front counter service, select retailers and some provincial parks.
“The Saskatchewan Trappers Guide is now a standalone document, designed to give trappers the specific information they need. Both the Trappers Guide and the Hunters Guide include comprehensive lists of season dates, important information on regulations, licenses and fees, and highlights of what is new for 2024, including expanded dark goose hunting opportunities,” the government stated on their website.
Hunters must be aware of the permission needed to hunt on private land. Approximately 85% of land in southern Saskatchewan is privately owned. Gaining permission has gotten easier, as you can ask through person, phone, or email. Consent to hunt can be given either orally, in writing, or through signage.
Hunters will have to make sure they have their HAL accounts ready when purchasing their licenses. Information on HAL accounts can be accessed by visiting saskatchewanhal.ca or by calling 1-888-773-8450.
