The impending harvest is a sure sign that Vintage Days are back at the Humboldt Vintage Club Grounds just south of Humboldt on Highway 20. The two-day event on August 17-18 is chock full of activities and displays to delight the family.

Vintage Club President Wes Crone sets up Saturday’s events.

“This year, we’re going to be celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Gleaner combine. With that, we’re going to have a couple of old combines on display alongside a brand new one. It’s something different for people to come and take a look at.”

Another Saturday highlight is the antique tractor pull competition. The pre-1965 units will be going head-to-head for pull power supremacy. Registration and weigh-in goes from 8:30-10:30 am, with the pulls to follow at 11:00 am.

Both days have a full array of displays in the Tea House, the main building and throughout the grounds. The concession will be open both days, along with the ever-popular elephant ear pastries.

“On Sunday, August 18, we kick the day off with our pancake breakfast from 8 am until noon,” Crone continues. “Once the breakfast is wrapped up, we’ll continue with entertainment in the main building – our 7th annual Grand Old Opry, this year featuring Saltwater Joy from 1 – 3 pm.”

The big event to wrap up the day is the time honoured trashing of the bundles demonstration. The process takes audiences back to yesteryear when harvest was accomplished on an entirely different scale and in a much different way.

The day also includes wood cutting and rope making demonstrations, along with blacksmithing demonstrations. The Tea House will be open once again, this time hosting a bake sale and raffle. The market garden with arts and crafts vendors will populate the main building.

There’s special fun for the kids with Smiling Rainbow the clown, featuring balloon animals. The mini steam engine fires up again to give kids rides, and as an added attraction this year, a fish pond and kids games are set up at the playhouse.

Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for kids (6-12 years) and free entry for those five and under. Costs for the pancake breakfast are also $10 for adults, $5 for kids (6-12 years) and free five and under.

There’s entertainment for everyone with an “old-timey” spin at the Humboldt Vintage Days this Saturday and Sunday
