Another supportive summertime crowd gathered outside the Humboldt and District Museum for Thursday’s burger barbecue and entertainment. Yanna Yudina Jeewon treated to the crowd to a set of upbeat contemporary hits and some well-known classics in a style that’s all her own.

Thursday’s barbecue proceeds go to help the Humboldt and District SPCA as it continues work on its new facility just south of the city on 104th St. Joanne Koski with the SPCA talked about the importance of fundraising events like the barbecue.

“It’s what keeps our doors open. We are currently trying to get into our new facility, so we are working on renovations. At the same time, we have animals in need at the current location. They have vet bills, care, food and other materials so it’s important for us to always be raising funds.”

The SPCA currently has a liquor basket raffle going on. Tickets are available at the SPCA office on Highway 5 or online at www.humboldtspca.com

Meanwhile the Humboldt Broncos staff was out in full force backing the venture. In advance of the season startup, head coach Brayden Klimosko, making his return to his hometown, alongside assistant coach Carter Hansen flipped burgers with an expert flair, while voice of the Broncos Rory McGouran manned the ticket table.

“Growing up here, I know what the Broncos mean to the community,” said Klimosko, deftly managing the smoky grill. “You remember those barbecues, those pancake breakfasts with the Broncos participating. We’re just trying to do our part today.”

Klimosko said he’s had a burger or two in his day, so he has more than a passing familiarity with the grill.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by, to the volunteers, to Yanna for the entertainment, and the Museum for always being gracious hosts at the summertime events.
