Saskatchewan Agriculture's crop report from last week shows six percent of the provincial harvest is now in the bin.
Harvest is most advanced in the southwest where 16 per cent of the crop is in.
Amber Wall, the assistant manager for the Wheatland Conservation Area, says they are well ahead of schedule when it comes to harvesting their research plots.
"Harvest is moving along quite quickly. We haven't received any of the showers that passed throughout August."
She notes they started harvesting some of their early research plots at the end of July and are now about 70 per cent done.
For Wheatland Conservation the recent hot, dry weather really had an impact on crop development.
"Our earlier seeded crops seemed to do a bit better, but still looking at about average to below average yield. Some of the later seeded crops are definitely below average. So that's pretty disappointing, but the worst part probably is the quality. The quality just didn't allow the seed to fill properly. Lots of our cereals are shriveled and our oilseeds didn't fill properly, so not very good quality overall."
