Joanne Marie Bernadine Hinz (née Dielschneider)
May 20, 1958 - August 24, 2024
It is with sadness that the family of Joanne Hinz announces her passing on August 24, 2024, in Humboldt, Saskatchewan. Joanne was born in Melville, SK to Peter and Joyce Dielschneider. Born prematurely, she struggled hard to make it through her first night. She did — with a characteristic stubbornness that would define her to the end. Joanne faced significant health and learning problems throughout her childhood, but her beloved parents, grandmother, aunts, uncles, and extended family supported her. Known affectionately as “Annie” by her aunts and uncles, Joanne’s favourite activity was to play “school.” She was always the teacher and was a strict disciplinarian when her students misbehaved. In 1973, Joanne moved to Humboldt with her parents and siblings and enrolled in a vocational school in Muenster, SK. Being part of the Muenster community led Joanne to Warren Hinz. They were married in 1980, and their first son, Christopher, was born shortly thereafter. Their second son, Daniel, arrived in 1983. Joanne and Warren lived in Humboldt throughout their entire marriage, except for a short stay in assisted living in Leroy, SK. They welcomed two grandchildren - Kelsey in 2010 and Ryder in 2013. When Joanne needed more care, she moved into St. Mary’s Villa in Humboldt in 2021 and remained there until her death. She passed away with Daniel at her side, holding her hand.
Joanne had an affinity for music and loved to sing and play the piano and organ. On what would end up being her last visit with her sister, Joanne mentioned that their mother’s organ had ended up at the Villa in Humboldt. They were able to see the organ together, and Joanne mentioned that she would like her hymnbooks so that she could play again.
Joanne is survived by her husband of 44 years, Warren; children, Christopher (Luciano Biscottini) and Daniel (Nancy) Hinz; grandchildren, Kelsey and Ryder Hinz; brother, Tom (Lois Nahirney) Dielschneider; sister, Bev (Curt) Van Parys; and many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Joyce (née Killick) Dielschneider and numerous aunts and uncles.
The family would like to thank the exceptional staff at St. Mary’s Villa. Joanne received excellent care and enjoyed participating in the community activities arranged by Villa staff. The family would also like to thank Joanne’s many healthcare providers in Humboldt, including staff at the Humboldt clinic, homecare, and hospital. A special thank you to Nancy Hinz for her years of support to Joanne and Warren - you did so much for them.
The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by Father Demetrius Wasylyniuk, OSB and con-celebrated by Fr.
