The Pembina and Red River Valleys woke up to rainfall Thursday morning, and another round of accumulating precipitation.
"A low moving into the province from Saskatchewan was responsible for the rain," explained CMOS Accredited Weathercaster Chris Sumner. "As the main area of precipitation moved out of North Dakota early Thursday morning, the embedded thunderstorms within it weakened."
Severe Thunderstorm Watches had been in effect for a few hours early Thursday morning for the Morden, Winkler, Carman, Altona and Morris regions. Those were ended before 7 a.m.

September long weekend is here, and Sumner is expecting a winner for the unofficial end to Summer.
"Nothing but great news to share about the Labour Day weekend forecast," he said. "At this point, we’re expecting a large amount of sunshine Friday through Monday, with little chance of rainfall. The quieter pattern will be supported by high pressure that’s building into the region beginning late Saturday."
He noted that means clear sky and sunny conditions with seasonal temperatures between 22 and 24 all weekend. Averages for the end of August/beginning of September are 22 degrees for a daytime high and 9 for an overnight low.
"Outside of a somewhat breezy day Saturday, when we could see northwesterly gusts up to 50 km/h as that surface high pressure moves in, there's not much to point out for the final long weekend of the Summer," he added.
