It’s day one of Winkler Flyers main camp. Players will scrimmage at 2:30 p.m. and 4:45 p.m. The defending Manitoba Junior Hockey League champions will play their pre-season opener next Friday at home against the Steinbach Pistons.


Emil Rhode and Santi Bergen did the goal scoring as the Winkler Storm defeated CSSE Juventus 2-0 in Stonewall. Carter Klassen recorded the clean sheet for the Storm who improved to 11-2-2 in the Manitoba Major Soccer League’s 1st Division.


The Winnipeg Goldeyes jumped out to an early 5-0 lead and cruised to a 12-4 victory over the Lincoln Saltdogs at Blue Cross Park. Miles Simington homered twice and drove in five runs for the Fish (55-41) who lead the Sioux Falls Canaries by one game in the race for top spot in the American Association’s West Division. Winnipeg has won six in a row and have three games left in the regular season schedule.


Canadian athletes won two more bronze medals at the Paris Paralympics. Track cyclist Keely Shaw of Midale, Saskatchewan finished third in the women’s pursuit and Alexandre Hayward of Quispamsis, New Brunswick was third in the men’s pursuit on Friday. Canadian athletes have won four medals through two days of competition - all bronze.
