The Winnipeg Blue Bombers face the Saskatchewan Roughriders tonight (6 p.m.) in Regina in the 59th annual Labour Day Classic. Offensive lineman Stanley Bryant will not play. Bryant, who was battling an illness, left last week’s game against Hamilton on the first series on a stretcher and an IV before being discharged from hospital. Linebacker Adam Bighill and receiver Drew Wolitarsky return to the lineup. The Bombers (5-6) have won three in a row while the Riders (5-5-1) are winless in their last five games.


The Winnipeg Goldeyes have clinched first place in the American Association’s West Division. Miles Simington had four hits and Andy Armstrong drove in four runs as the Fish defeated the Lincoln Saltdogs 11-9 at Blue Cross Park. Winnipeg has won seven in a row and have two games left in the regular season schedule.


Canadian athletes won a pair of silver medals in the pool at the Paris Paralympics. Nicholas Bennett of Parksville, B.C. swam to silver in the 200-metre freestyle and Tess Routliffe of Caledon, Ontario placed second in the women’s 200-metre individual medley. Canadian athletes have won six medals through three days of competition including two silver and four bronze.
