It is with profound sadness that the family of Josip Skender announces his peaceful passing, on August 26, 2024, at the age of 92 years.

Joe will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years, Dianne; and their children Lori (Ron) Whelan, Darryl (Shannon) Skender, and Marci (Mike) Sheward; 10 grandchildren (Tia, Erica, Liam, Garrett, Ivy, Dayne, Logan, Brynn, Will and Joey) and 3 great-grandchildren (Levi, Saskia and Mabel) as well as lifelong friends Jim Banman and Jim Gough.

At the age of 24 he left Yugoslavia to start a new life in Canada, eventually settling in Moose Jaw where he met his soul mate Dianne. There he established his family and a 50+ year career in Carpentry.

In 1989 Joe and Dianne moved to the Okanagan, attempting to retire (retiring was just about the only thing he ever failed at). He planted his first 9 cloves of garlic that year, which would turn into a 34-year passion where their famous garlic was in demand throughout the country. For health reasons, they retired to Comox in 2022.

Joe loved the ocean, fishing, watching sports (especially the Riders), Gunsmoke, MeTV, and most of all his family.
He will be lovingly remembered as our Joe, Dad, and Papa.
