Portage la Prairie is set to sizzle this week.

Environment and Climate Change Canada forecasts multiple 30+ days in the region.

Meteorologist Natalie Hasell says this is due to the province being influenced by an upper-level ridge centred in New Mexico.

"We're looking at very warm conditions in the prairies for most of this week in southern Manitoba. We will see temperatures in the 30° range most of the week."

Besides a blip on Wednesday, it looks like this week will be consistently scorching. Hasell adds that while it will be very hot, she doesn't expect a heat warning.

"Things are not lining up for the warning criteria to actually materialize. People need to pay attention, nonetheless. Take precautions, especially those folks who are more susceptible to heat and perhaps smoke, because we still have fires burning not too far."

With this perhaps being the last taste of really hot weather we get before fall really takes effect, Hasell says you should take this time to do your chores.

"You should look to do any repairs that need to be done before the next season really settles in."

The humidex is supposed to reach 39 on Tuesday, and while there may be no heat warning, Hasell notes that people should still be careful.

"You should certainly be taking all of the precautions that you would normally take if a warning were in effect. Pay attention to how you're feeling. Pay attention to how people around you are feeling and behaving," she continues. "Heat stroke is the most dangerous form of heat illness and basically affects your brain, which is why it's called heat stroke. You'll see people behave differently in those situations. They'll feel confused. They'll have poor motor or muscle coordination control. All of those things that we've talked about in the past still apply now, even if a warning isn't going to be in effect."
