The Portage Terriers are ready kick off their season of action with a matchup against the Virden Oil Capitals.

The Dogs and Oil Caps have met in the preseason 6 times in the last three years, with Portage owning a record of 1-5 (W-L) in that stretch. However, significant departures from the Oil Capitals over the summer have members of the Terriers camp feeling positive about their chances to get the season off on the right foot with a win.

The Terriers camp saw many players make their returns to Portage la Prairie, including third-year defenceman Parker Scherr. Several young men are returning for their second year, including Rhett Perrin, Jonny Ballos, and Finley Titterson, who earned a late-season call-up from the Eastman Selects. A large American contingent returned as well, with Owen Witt, Grant Dardis, Cam Bullinger, Nolan Nenow, and Adler Johnston taking part in training camp.

The first game was usually reserved for players who hadn't played in the MJHL the year before, however, due to not having a camp dedicated to rookies this year, Head Coach and GM Blake Spiller may ice some of his players from last year in the contest.

The game begins at 7:30, and tickets are available for five dollars at the main entrance to the arena.
