We're delivering food to hungry farmers all over southeast Saskatchewan!
To celebrate the hard-working people who put food on our tables, DiscoverEstevan is sending out a delicious meal for 12 people from KFC. FD4 Farms was one of our winners last week. Blake Fornwald shared that they're about halfway done harvesting their crops, and the KFC lunch was much appreciated.
"We've had some slow days with fog and smoke and fog in the morning, you know, consecutive days, so [we're] not getting real early starts. [We also get] cool nights, so we don't get too much done after sunset."
FD4 is a relatively new farm, only being around for three seasons. Blake is the head of the operation, while his sons and their families help. On the field, they're growing green peas, spring wheat, durum wheat, canola, flax, and soybeans. For Blake's part, he's been farming for over 45 years.
"It's just a nice gesture for businesses and KFC just to sponsor this and appreciate farmers. Sometimes, we get too busy to stop and take a break, but it was a nice break that day and [also] chatting with Karli and just finding out how everything went."
