Four new officers for Estevan gives the EPS a chance to flex their training skills
The Estevan Police Service has a few new faces that will be joining the service, as two officers have joined up this summer, with two others just starting the process of joining up.
Csts. Jesse Peterson and Keaten Tarnes recently graduated from the Saskatchewan Police College and have joined the Estevan Police Service as they undergo field training. Meanwhile Csts. Josie Palmer and Colin Sutter have recently been sworn in as Probationary Constables, attending the College from July 22 - December 12.
National Defence considering purchase of fighter drones that could fly with F-35
The Department of National Defence is looking at the possibility of complementing its incoming F-35 fleet with uncrewed combat aircraft.
Unclassified documents obtained by The Canadian Press show the department is researching various options for acquiring the emerging technology.
The documents suggest that purchasing a fleet of aerial combat drones that could fly alongside fighter jets could cost as much as $16 billion and would require hundreds of staff.
Fishing season continues with province keeping a close eye on fish populations
Fishing has been open for a while in Saskatchewan, with anglers taking the time to float along the province's lakes and rivers, seeing what they can catch.
Mitchell Thorarinson, a fisheries biologist with the Ministry of Environment, talks about the season so far and how anglers have been faring.
"Everything's looking good, I've had no complaints so far, looks like everybody's having lots of luck."
Fish populations seem to be at decent levels, as Thorarinson says they keep an eye on those with evaluations throughout the year.

Quebecers are the happiest in Canada, P.E.I residents least happy, survey finds
A new poll by Leger has found that Quebec residents are the happiest in Canada.
The web survey of nearly 40,000 Canadians found that Quebecers rated their happiness at an average of 72.4 out of 100, which is well above the national average.
New Brunswick followed Quebec with an average of 70.2, while Manitoba and Prince Edward Island finished at the bottom of the list.
Mississauga, Ont. had the highest happiness rating of the 10 largest cities, while Toronto was lowest.
Montreal finished second in the category.
Saskatchewan minimum wage to rise again in October
Saskatchewan’s minimum wage will rise to $15.35 per hour on Oct. 1.
The province’s minimum wage is calculated using an indexation formula that gives equal weight to changes in the Consumer Price Index and the average hourly wage in Saskatchewan.

Estevan Bruins make major trade with Battlefords North Stars
The Estevan Bruins have completed a significant trade with the Battlefords North Stars, acquiring star forward Rylan Williams, defencemen Logan Goodwin and Alex Scheck, plus future considerations. In return, the North Stars received the Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL) rights to forward Kent Moors.
Williams, a top-performing forward from Kyle, Saskatchewan, comes off a strong season with 42 points in 50 games. Known for his blend of power and finesse, he is expected to be a major offensive force for the Bruins this season.
Environment Canada upgrades air quality advisory to smoke warning
Environment Canada's previous special air quality statement has been upgraded to a warning as smoke is piling into the southeast today.
A cold front is pushing smoke from the wildfires in northern Saskatchewan towards the southeast, with that settling into the air as temperatures are well below seasonal today.
Take a trip BACK IN TIME in Frobisher for their annual Threshermen's Reunion!
We take a lot of advance equipment for granted these day. Farming has come a long way since people had to tend to their fields by hand in southeast Saskatchewan. However, every now and then, a reminder of where we came from and how we processed our food will help us appreciate the food that we have today.
That's the goal of the annual Threshermen's Reunion event in Frobisher, set for this Sunday July 13.
