The two twelve-man football programs in Moose Jaw have gotten their seasons started.

On Saturday, September 7, at Gutheridge Field, the Central Collegiate Cyclones and Peacock Collegiate Tornados kicked off the season with an exciting game. The Cyclones came out on top with a final score of 28 - 24.

Last year for Peacock Collegiate, the team made strides throughout the season but missed a provincial playoff run in the 5A 12-aside Conference. After seeing their team in action for the first time this year and coming so close to a win to start the season, Head Coach Bert Redstone is optimistic to make a run in 2024.

"A lot of veteran guys really rallied this year. We were Hoping to start strong but obviously, you always hope for that first win. It kind of gets you behind the eightball in the standings to go 0 - 1, but the boys are hungry, and they are going to use it to motivate themselves." said Redstone

As for Central Collegiate, they got into the Provincial bracket last year. Unfortunately, they would be eliminated in the first round by Weyburn, with a score of 28 - 8. Head Coach, Colin Belsher, is hoping to lead his team back to the playoffs, while also making a deep run.

"Your goal every year is to get better as the season progresses and find yourself in the provincial final. Last year we were a pretty senior-loaded team and fell short as much as it was a successful season. The players that we have now, they've tasted it and they wanted to get back there and finish what they started." stated Belsher.

Both teams are back on the field in week two on Saturday, September 14 at 1 PM. The Peacock Collegiate Tornados look to get their first win as they host Swift Current at Gutheridge Field. While the Central Collegiate Cyclones are on the road in Estevan.
