After serving Strathmore for years, Hunger Paynes Food Truck is leaving town.
The announcement was made on Thursday (Sept. 5) on the Hunger Paynes Facebook page. Owner Cheryl Payne has been involved in the food industry since she was 12 years old.
"I'm 66 and crazy, but I guess I'm nomadic. I'm off on another adventure. I'm going to head out to Vernon," said Payne. "I'm going to be either in the town or on powwows or different events there. They have a lot more festivals there and the season is about eight months. It's just time to move on."
Payne started the food truck back in 2012 and served burgers, brisket sandwiches, poutine, and other types of food to residents. The truck also catered and attended events all across the area.
"Strathmore has been very good. During COVID, I was fortunate that I had my blue trailer with sliding windows in it, so I didn't even have to shut down. I stayed open and I had lineups coming for my burger and brisket poutine."
Although Hunger Paynes will be moving on from Strathmore, Payne said that she'll miss the town, as she's been living here for over 30 years.
"I've worked in every occupation in town except banking, so I know a lot of people in town, and I have a lot of connections," added Payne. "I am going to miss that I can just pick up the phone and call who I know personally."
Hunger Paynes will roll out of Strathmore at the end of the month.
