United Way Pembina Valley held their organization’s 2024-25 campaign kick-off this week at the Buhler Active Living Centre – signaling an exciting new chapter for the charity.
During the previous year, United Way Pembina Valley successfully raised $150,000, thanks to the generous support of the local community. Levi Taylor, President of United Way Pembina Valley spoke on that year’s goal, and what the success meant for this year. “We were able to meet that goal and then redistribute ever single dollar of those funds back to 31 local, not-for-profit organizations here in the Pembina Valley.”
This year, the organization is aiming higher. Taylor announced, “And so we’ve set a goal this year of $160,000.”
City of Winkler Mayor Henry Siemens gave the city’s thanks to the local branch of United way, saying, “Thirty-one organizations were able to do something that they could not have done to support the community, if it hadn’t been for the community.”
Mayor of Morden Nancy Penner spoke on what United Way’s support means to the non-profits in Morden. “In Morden some of the non-profits are seeing added need in what they offer, so the support the United Way gives to them is very much needed.”
United Way has discontinued its door-to-door campaign this year, and Taylor advised, “If anybody shows up, they’re not from the United Way. Take caution.” Donations can instead be made through the United Way’s website, or for those who prefer traditional methods, checks can be mailed to their address, or businesses can set up payroll deduction programs for employees.
Local not-for-profit organizations interested in applying for funding can also find information and applications on the United Way Website shortly, and the deadline for applications is December 15th.
