The Kindersley RCMP is encouraging local residents and businesses to register their security cameras through the new CAPTURE program, which aims to help solve crimes, find missing persons, and recover stolen property.

The CAPTURE (Community Assisted Policing Through Use of Recorded Evidence) program allows police officers to quickly identify private security cameras near the scene of a crime. By consulting a map of registered cameras, officers can determine whether there is a camera in the vicinity and contact the owner to request footage from a specific date and time.

"When officers can access security footage quickly, it significantly increases the chances of solving a crime or locating a missing person," says the Kindersley RCMP. "Through the CAPTURE registry, we're able to streamline that process and work more efficiently."

The program is free and voluntary, and registering cameras is simple. Those who register are not obligated to provide footage, and the registry is designed to protect privacy. The RCMP will only contact camera owners if there is an incident in their area, and police will never have direct access to any cameras. Additionally, the program is limited to outdoor cameras only, and participants can cancel their registration at any time.

Both rural and urban residents served by the Kindersley, Kerrobert, and Eston RCMP detachments are invited to participate. To register, visit www.saskcapture.ca or call the Kindersley RCMP at 306-463-4642.

The RCMP hopes that with more cameras registered, they will be able to gather crucial evidence faster and improve public safety throughout the region.
