The Central Plains RCMP handed out a pair of driving-under-the-influence charges, as detailed in their weekly report. 

On September 3 at 9:53 a.m., Amaranth RCMP received a report of a possible impaired driver on Road 104 North near Amaranth.

 The officer attended and located a vehicle with a flat tire and a 23-year-old female in the driver’s seat. According to the report, the driver showed signs of impairment and was asked to provide a breath sample on a Roadside Screening Device. The result was a fail. 

The driver was arrested and taken to the RCMP Detachment to provide breath samples to be analyzed. The results were almost double the legal limit to operate a vehicle. The driver faces charges of Impaired Operation of a Vehicle while Over 80mg%. 

The driver has lost her licence; the vehicle she was driving was towed and impounded, and she will need to appear in court at a later date to answer for the charge.

Also detailed in the weekly report, at 5:30 p.m. on September 6, a Portage la Prairie RCMP officer was making patrols and observed a vehicle travelling over the speed limit on Highway #1 west of Portage la Prairie. As the officer was about to pull his vehicle out to pull the speeder over, the officer witnessed a second vehicle also travelling faster than the allotted speed. The officer activated his emergency lights, and both speeding vehicles pulled over. 

The two vehicles were not travelling together. 

The officer spoke to both drivers and demanded a Mandatory Alcohol Screening test. The vehicle that was travelling 20 kph faster than the speed limit passed the alcohol screening and received a ticket for $312.00 for speeding. 

The driver of the vehicle that was travelling 21kph faster than the speed limit failed the alcohol screening and was issued an Immediate Roadside Driving Prohibition. 

The driver has lost their licence for 90 days, the vehicle he was driving was towed and impounded for 30 days, and they will need to pay an Administration Penalty of $700.00. They also received a ticket for having alcohol in the vehicle worth $237.00 and a speeding ticket for $325.00.
