Steinbach Regional is 0-2 to start the 2024 Winnipeg High School Football League season. The Sabres gave up 21 unanswered second half points and lost their home opener 35-14 to the Grant Park Pirates Thursday at A.D. Penner Park in Steinbach. SRSS quarterback Toby Plett threw touchdown passes to Marcus Johnson and Dylan Godlewski. Josh Griener carried the ball 10 times for 111 yards. Nigel Reader led the Sabres defense with nine tackles.


The Steinbach Pistons wrap up their pre-season schedule with a pair of road games this weekend. The Pistons meet the Winkler Flyers tonight and the Niverville Nighthawks on Saturday. Steinbach will open the 2024-25 Manitoba Junior Hockey League season next Friday against the defending champion Flyers in Winkler in a rematch of last season's Turnbull Cup final.


The Brandon Wheat Kings wrap up their pre-season schedule with a pair of games against the Regina Pats this weekend. The two teams meet tonight at Westoba Place and Saturday in Regina. The Wheat Kings open the 2024-25 Western Hockey League season Friday, September 20th at home against the defending champion Moose Jaw Warriors.


The Winnipeg Jets face the Calgary Flames tonight at the Young Stars Classic in Penticton, BC. The Jets will also take on the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday and the Edmonton Oilers on Monday. Steinbach’s Luke Mistelbacher is on the Jets roster as a free agent invitee.


The Winnipeg Goldeyes will meet the Kane County Cougars in the American Association’s best-of-five Wolff Cup final. Miles Simington had two hits and Jake McMurray drilled a solo home run as the Goldeyes defeated the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 3-1 in the third and deciding game of the West Division Championship Series Thursday night at Blue Cross Park.


Todd Fanning is the low Manitoban heading into day two of the 2024 Canadian Senior Men’s Golf Championship in Saugeen Shores, Ontario. Fanning was one-under par 71 Thursday and is in a tie for 6th place. Ron Cornell was 75, Mike Walker was 76, Jay Doyle was 77, Rob Oliphant was 79, Dwayne Heinrichs was 80 and Provincial champion Brad Moore opened with an 81.

Eastman Wildcats teams enjoyed a successful 2024 softball season

Eastman Wildcats president Russ Kihn will join Clayton Dreger and reflect on the 2024 softball season on Sportsbeat which airs Fridays at 5:15 p.m. on AM 1250 Radio.
