One person is dead and three people are in hospital following a crash on Portage Avenue during Friday morning's rush hour in Winnipeg.
The Winnipeg Police Service says that a pickup truck drove through a bus shelter and hydro pole on Portage Avenue and Bedson Street around 7:39 a.m.
In a press release, the WPS says that members of the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service attended to a pedestrian who had succumbed to their injuries. Three additional patients were transported to the hospital, all currently listed as stable.
"A preliminary investigation indicated that the Ford F150 was traveling (sic) eastbound on Portage Avenue, near Bedson Street, when it collided with a pedestrian and a bus shelter," the release says.
"A secondary vehicle, hydro pole, and gas station were also damaged during the incident."
Anyone with information, including video or dash camera video footage regarding this incident, is asked to contact Traffic Division investigators at 204-986-7085 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477 (TIPS) or online at winnipegcrimestoppers.org.
As a result, Portage Avenue is closed in both directions between Cavalier Drive and David Street. Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area and find another route.
The collision also caused a large power outage in the area. Manitoba Hydro says about 1,350 customers were affected.
