The Airdrie and District Community Foundation (ADCF) has reached its 10-year goal three years early.

The foundation now has a permanent principal fund of over $1 million dollars.

A registered charity, The Airdrie and District Community Foundation allows people and organizations to donate tax-deductible funds to a lasting financial legacy that will benefit Airdrie for years to come. Those who donate have the option to pick where their funds go. Each year, the foundation only donates the interest of all that is donated.

Dale Rathgeber, Chair of the foundation is pleased to see how far the foundation has come.

"We started this foundation with $10,000 seven years ago, and we're now just over a million dollars. Our goal was to do it in 10 years."

Rathgeber explained this is all possible because of Airdronians and all of their generous donations.

"People are generous and good-hearted, they appreciate that we are trying to help those charities on the ground that help the disadvantaged of Airdrie. It's very gratifying to see that this concept is working and will continue to work, presumably forever."

Rathgeber who has been with the foundation basically from the beginning talked about what it means to him to reach this mark.

"It's extremely gratifying, we had only hopes and dreams, and now we've hit a turning point and a milestone, and it's a real thing, and we're doing some good in the community, and it warms my heart."

He finished off by saying this now allows them to donate around $50,000 each year to local organizations.

Back in May, the foundation held its annual event where they handed out $30,000 to the Airdrie Public Library, Thumbs Up Foundation, Airdrie Health Foundation, Airdrie Meals on Wheels, Airdrie Rotary Festival of Performing Arts, Volunteer Airdrie, North Rockyview Community Links Society, Airdrie 1st Club and BGC Airdrie.

This was the sixth time a gala was hosted, COVID put it on hold for a few years. At the time, the foundation had a fund of just over $900,000.
