The Government of Saskatchewan has announced over $25 million in funding for 13 industry-driven projects aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions across the province. The funding, provided through the Saskatchewan Technology Fund, is expected to leverage an additional $277 million in private sector and government investment, supporting the province's efforts to balance environmental sustainability with economic growth.
Environment Minister Christine Tell highlighted the importance of technological innovation in reducing emissions while maintaining the competitiveness of Saskatchewan industries. "By focusing on technology and innovation, we are ensuring that Saskatchewan takes a leadership role in environmental responsibility while remaining at the forefront of innovation," Tell said. "These projects demonstrate that Saskatchewan industries can thrive while reducing their carbon footprints, all without imposing the burdensome costs of a carbon tax."

The supported projects, which span various sectors, aim to reduce more than 4.5 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent. This will be achieved through initiatives such as reducing methane emissions from venting and flaring, upgrading equipment for energy efficiency, and deploying carbon capture and storage technologies.
The Saskatchewan Technology Fund was developed as part of the province's Output-Based Performance Standards (OBPS) Program and Prairie Resilience climate change strategy. It provides a compliance option for regulated emitters, helping industries invest in market-ready technologies that lower emissions and reduce costs. Successful projects were selected through a competitive application process, and assessed for their emissions reduction potential, technical feasibility, and socio-economic benefits.
The province will finalize funding agreements with the selected applicants, with disbursements tied to project milestones and progress reports. More details about the funded projects will be released once agreements are in place.
This investment in emissions reduction is part of Saskatchewan's broader strategy to address climate change while ensuring the long-term sustainability of its industries.
