Niverville Force SC wrapped up their regular season schedule Sunday night. Parker Davis, Marius Enns and Jaden Giesbrecht did the goal scoring as Niverville defeated Lucania United FC 3-1. Force SC finished with an 8-6-4 record in the Manitoba Major Soccer League's 1st Division and will meet Grant Park SC in the quarterfinals on Thursday at Shaughnessy Park in Winnipeg. 


Steinbach Regional lost to College Jeanne-Sauve in the semifinals at the Mennonite Brethren Hawks junior varsity girls volleyball tournament. The Olympiens defeated the Sabres 23-25, 25-9, 15-8. The Lorette Scorpions fell 3-1 to Northlands Parkway in the final of the Garden Valley Zodiacs boys soccer tournament in Winkler. 


The Winnipeg Jets dropped a 4-2 decision to the Vancouver Canucks. Brad Lambert had a goal and assist for the Jets who play their final game of the Young Stars Classic today at 1 p.m. against the Edmonton Oilers in Penticton, B.C. 


The Winnipeg Goldeyes lost 1-0 to the Kane County Cougars Sunday afternoon in game two of the American Association's best-of-five Wolff Cup final in Geneva, Illinois. The only run of the game was scored in the fourth inning. Kane County left fielder Cornelius Randolph singled, stole second, and scored on designated hitter Todd Lott’s base hit. The Cougars lead the best-of-five series two games to none. Winnipeg did not record a hit until the ninth inning but managed to load the bases before right fielder Miles Simington grounded into a 1-2-3 double play to end the ballgame. The remainder of the series will be played at Blue Cross Park, with game three scheduled for Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.


Miles McConnell of Tampa, Florida birdied the first playoff hole and captured the 2024 Canadian Senior Men’s Golf Championship in Saugeen Shores, Ontario. McConnell and Stephen Jensen of England were tied at eight-under par 280 after 72 holes. Todd Fanning was the low Manitoban. He was one-under par 71 Sunday and finished at even par 288. Jay Doyle was 80 and finished at plus 20. Ron Cornell was 82 and plus 24. 


Aaron Cockerill recorded a top 10 finish at the DP World Tour's Irish Open. The 32-year-old from Stony Mountain eagled the par five 18th hole Sunday and finished tied for ninth at two-under par 282, seven shots back of winner Rasmus Hojgaard. Cockerill, who moved up eight spots and into 39th place in the Race to Dubai rankings, earned 107,717 euros or just over $165,000 Canadian.


Canada has qualified for the quarterfinals of the Davis Cup. Team Canada defeated the United Kingdom 2-1 Sunday. Canada finished atop the Group D standings and advanced with Argentina to the Davis Cup's final eight. Canada won the title in 2022.

MHSAA executive director Chad Falk

The Provincial High School Golf, Cross Country and A/AA/AAA Soccer championships take place over the next four weeks. MHSAA executive director Chad Falk will join Clayton Dreger on Sportsbeat which airs Mondays at 5:15 p.m. on AM 1250 Radio.
