With fall right around the corner, MacGregor and the Heartland Recreation Commission gave residents another reason to appreciate the warm weather.

The weekend kicked off with their annual Fall Fest on September 14. Karla Gurke, recreation director and facility manager of the Heartland Recreation Commission, says attendance was low to start, but that quickly changed.

"It felt like everybody came to town. It was fantastic," Gurke said. "There were families walking around, seniors walking around, even groups of teenagers walking around. It was just unfathomable how good it was."

Hampton Street was closed for the festival, allowing attendees to immerse themselves in a variety of activities. Gurke emphasized that the event was designed to be enjoyable for all ages, featuring kids' activities, a car show, beer gardens, live music, and more ways to experience MacGregor.

"This is going to be the starting point for every year going forward," Gurke said. "We learned a lot, and I think everybody had a great time. Nobody seemed to be too upset about the road closure."

Following the Fall Fest, runners laced up for the Colour Fun Run & Walk on September 15, which offered a vibrant twist with its five-kilometre course.

"(Events like these) are huge for a small town," Gurke said. "With this many people in town, you get to wander through and check out stores that you wouldn't ordinarily visit. Some of the businesses located just outside of town came in and brought their products."

Gurke also extended her thanks to all the volunteers who helped showcase MacGregor in a positive light.
