Residents near the Village of Coleville should be prepared for a temporary controlled natural gas flare on Tuesday, September 17, as SaskEnergy conducts scheduled maintenance on its infrastructure. The flaring will take place at the TransGas block valve site within the RM of Oakdale, approximately 10 kilometres northwest of Coleville.

The controlled flaring is set to occur between 7:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., although this may be adjusted based on operational requirements. During this time, a 40-foot flame may be visible from a flare stack temporarily connected to SaskEnergy's natural gas line.

SaskEnergy states that the flaring is essential for performing maintenance on the natural gas system to ensure the safe and reliable delivery of service. The process involves isolating a portion of the gas line and safely removing natural gas through a controlled burn. This method, known as flaring, is an industry-standard practice that reduces the carbon footprint of vented gas by up to 85 per cent.

Public safety will be a priority, with the area around the flare being closely monitored by trained personnel. SaskEnergy has assured residents that there will be no disruption to local natural gas service during the procedure. The RM of Oakdale Fire Department has also been notified of the event.

Drivers and residents in the area are encouraged to remain aware of the flare and understand that it is part of routine maintenance to keep the natural gas system functioning efficiently.
