The Town of Okotoks will have two upgraded playgrounds soon.

According to the Town, construction has already begun to replace the playgrounds at both the Crystal Ridge and Suntree Park Playgrounds.

The Town had asked for public input on the designs of the new playgrounds through an online poll.

People were able to select between two designs per playground, with each poll being available for several weeks.

For the Crystal Ridge playground, 158 people cast their votes between the two options, with the second design option getting 61 per cent of the votes.

This design includes a rocket spring rider, a stargazer, an edge climber, a ladder wall, a double slide, and more.

The previous playground at Crystal Ridge had been inspected and it was determined that the playground was nearing its end of life, in terms of age, ability to get replacement parts, and safety, and no longer meets the latest safety standards and codes.

Suntree Park playground had 173 people cast their ballots, and the second design option was also selected, with 65 per cent of the votes.

This option includes a ridge climber, a rung enclosure, 2 separate slides, an erratic climber, a climbing pole, and more.

The previous playground at Suntree Park was nearing its maximum lifespan of 25 years, and according to current safety standards, the playground needed to be replaced within two years of when it was inspected.

Both playgrounds are expected to be completed and re-opened by mid-October.
