Airdrie's Terry Fox Run saw an increase in participants this year compared to 2023.

On Sunday, around 130 Airdronians gathered at East Lake Park to participate in the annual Terry Fox Run. This year $7515 was raised, the goal was $6100.

All money fundraised this year went towards the Terry Fox Foundation. The Foundation works with people from around the world to support and fundraise for research to end cancer.

Kyla Cox, who has been organizing the run for several years now explained residents were able to walk, run, bike, scooter, rollerblade, really whatever they felt like doing.

"This was the most amount of people we had attended in a long time it was awesome to see so many people attend."

According to Cox, usually around 80 to 100 people attend the run and partake in the festivities.

"It's becoming more citywide event, instead of the same group of people all the time. It's nice to see some new faces and new kids, and everybody's excited to participate."

Cox explained after having her grandma passed away last year from cancer, it means a lot to her to see so many people show that they care.

"It's near and dear to my heart and many others; we had a few people that had survivor shirts on (showing they beat cancer)."

She finished off by once again thanking everybody who made a donation and participated in the event. It will be back next year.

Since 1980, the Terry Fox Run has raised more than $850 million.
