44 drivers fined for speeding on Highway 1 near Portage Monday

A ticket blitz resulted in many motorists heading to their destination with lighter wallets.

Manitoba RCMP shared stunning numbers regarding many motorists being caught speeding on the highway around Portage on Monday.

For a good part of the day, September 16, RCMP paid extra attention, and 44 vehicles were fined for speeds ranging from 118 to 139 km/h in the 100 zone on Trans-Canada near Portage la Prairie.

In the past, RCMP noted that many drivers do not slow down in the area where the speed has been reduced from 110km/h on a good portion of the highway between Winnipeg and the Saskatchewan border. 

Mounties remind those behind the wheel to slow down and drive to the posted limit.
